Club Mixed Doubles Tournament - October 16th 2016

Good weather prevailed as 9 pairs in two groups contested the newly inaugurated Colin Gratton Trophy for the Club’s Mixed Doubles tournament.
The final was a classic, contested by Malcolm Drinnan and his partner Paula Tailby versus Matthew Popham and Patti Mann and the set ebbed and flow to each partnership and eventually Matthew and Patti prevailed in a tie break to win the final 7-6.
Colin Gratton Chairman presented the new trophy in his name congratulated everyone for making the day so memorable, Lis Donaldson for organising and for the generous donations doe Julia’s House Hospice(Devizes) which totalled £170.

Pewsey Tennis Club Mixed Open Tournament, Sunday 22nd May in aid of National Autistic Society   On a lovely warm May morning 12 pairs contested this annual tournament and riased a fantastic £235 for the NAS after school clubs in Wiltshire.

Two groups of six pairs played full set with game point on deuce and Etan Gunton (last year’s winner) and Alexa Rutter won Group 1 and Malcolm Drinnan and Clare Bamforth won Group 2.   The final whilst keenly contested was fairly one sided with Ethan and Alexa emerging victorious by 6-1.

Lis Donaldson once again organised the tournament for which all entrants were grateful and warmly applauded.  Chairman, Colin Gratton, creator of the tournament was amazed at the funds raised, spoke of his appreciation and then presented the prizes and cup.  Hopefully Pewsey can build on having a home pair in the final and actually with the tournament next year.
